Essay on National Disaster Medical System - 1519 Words

Citizens of the United States face catastrophic disaster such as hurricane, tornadoes, hazmat spills and flooding. Emergency management situations varies. Managers have to put into consideration the type of disasters or the response of citizens. A great example, the hurricane in Tuscaloosa, AL required large amounts of medical and debris assistance from teams to help return the destructed site back to prior condition. National Disaster Medical Systems would be one of the first to respond if there is a tragic event like in Tuscaloosa, AL. Threw research, I hope to cover the history, objectives, goals, and support towards National Disaster Medical System. National Disaster Medical System is a federally coordinated system that†¦show more content†¦National Disaster Medical System has nearly 9,800 individuals working rigorously towards the success of emergency medical response, 8,000 of the 9,800 individuals are volunteers, while 1,800 are medically proficient civilians. V olunteers help many victims by providing food, lodging, and clothing. NDMS responding teams help prevent further casualties in the event of an emergency. In addition, NDMS is not an emergent organization, but NDMS does help disseminate information to those who seek it, provide solutions for protection and plans for organizing the people who show up to help after the disaster. The NDMS is an interagency partnership between the Department of Health and Human Service (HHS), the Department of Homeland Security (HS), the Department of Defense (DOD), and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) and is based on the 2005 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)between these agencies (ndms.fhpr.osd.mil). The National Disaster Medical System (NDMS) has been serving as a federal system that depicts the Nations medical response capability. NDMS has been known as an emergent organization since 1984. The formation of NDMS was formed due to executive order, by the fortieth President Ronald Regan.
